I’ve been using Zabbix a lot in my home network for monitoring and automating tasks. I was poking around in the documentation and I ran across this

Dynamic parameters

Multiple widgets have parameters that enable them to share configuration data between other widgets or the dashboard.

Host groups, Hosts, Item, Item list

The Host groups, Hosts, Item, and Item list (since Zabbix 7.0.1) parameters allow selecting either the respective entities or a data source containing either host groups, hosts or items for which the widget can display data.

For Host groups, Item, and Item list parameters, the data source can be a compatible widget from the same dashboard.

For Hosts parameter, the data source can be a compatible widget from the same dashboard or the dashboard itself.

Dynamic widgets in Zabbix! Maybe I could completely abandon my Grafana instance. Notice I bolded the since Zabbix 7.0.1. No problem, I’ll upgrade my current 6.4 instance and take this feature for a spin.

It’s never easy

Consulting Zabbix documentation, there is a specific page on upgrading from 6.4 to 7.0. This will be a snap. I begin following the steps and get to the step number four
