NFS Automount MacOS Montery
I have been using my QNAP NAS as an NFS server to my 2014 mac mini running the Plex media server for several years. Plex runs on the mac mini and I have the QNAP configured to share several mount points with NFS containing content. The current method that I use to mount these shared drives causes some problems.
One example of this is when QNAP receives a firmware update. Applying a new firmware version to QNAP requires a reboot. This reboot causes the mac mini to unmount the nfs mounts and it never tries to remount them. This renders the Plex server fairly useless.
Requirements
Prior to researching setting up automountd I was using the “connect to Server” method similar to this. This method is very easy to setup and it has the benefit of showing the mounted resource in finder. The one issue I’d often run into is if I needed reboot my QNAP for any reason, I’d have to remember that I’d need to remount my paths on my Plex server. This was enough of a nuisance that I decided to fix it. Some of my requirements were
- The Plex server must recover with with either QNAP NFS server or PLEX client rebooting.
- The Plex server must…
